WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Software developer CloudLinux Inc. announced that virtual private server hosting provider VPS.NET will begin to offer CloudLinux as one of the standard Linux operating systems on all of its elastic and instantly scalable cloud hosting offerings.
Making its debut at Parallels Summit 2010 (www.parallels.com/summit), CloudLinux is the first Linux–based, commercially supported operating system optimized for shared hosting providers and data centers. According to its Wednesday announcement, VPS.NET chose to provide CloudLinux across its cloud computing architecture because of its added flexibility and control, and its Lightweight Virtual Environment technology lets VPS.NET provide more effective resource management by reducing the amount of resources any website can use, so that no single account can slow down a whole server.
The UK2 Group launched VPS.NET last year in an effort to simplify the process of VPS cloud hosting. The UK2 Group is known for its large family of hosting brands including UK2.net, midPhase, WestHost, US2.net, WingSix, and Dotable. VPS.NET features a system where users are allocated blocks of infrastructure resources or "nodes," each representing 376MB of RAM, 10GB storage, 250GB transfer, and 600Mhz CPU share, which can be pooled together in various ways to create custom virtual machines.
