They’re actually a sister company to WestHost, both part of UK2Group, which has a couple of other awesome labels. Now we have tweaked that VPS a bit, but (and this is a big but for me) in ways you can tweak your server too. Let me run you through it:

* we got ourselves a cloud server at VPS.net, (7 nodes at the moment, though 4 would probably be sufficient);
* we installed a clean CPanel image, and picked the Chicago cloud as the location;
* we replaced Apache with LiteSpeed;
* we installed APC so we could do database and output caching with the help of Frederick’s awesome W3 Total Cache plugin;
* we set up our CDN, NetDNA in my case but VPS.net has a great one as well, again with the help of W3 Total Cache and a so called “origin pull” set up.

That’s it! Looking at it, fast WordPress hosting is easy, due in large part to Frederick’s work with W3 Total Cache.

So why didn’t we use a dedicated server? Well, that’s pretty easy to answer: how easy is it to scale a dedicated server? Scaling this server is as easy as going into my VPS.net control panel, and adding a couple of nodes. Either for eternity, or just for a couple of days, it’s all possible. Let me tell you this though: I was on another “cloud based” WordPress hosting solution before I started working with the VPS.net / WestHost guys, and I didn’t like it one bit, when my site got too big, they moved me off to what they call a Dedicated Virtual Rage, and that was even more painful. This experience has been entirely different.

So, to conclude all this: I know WordPress hosting can be painful, when it shouldn’t be. I’ve been with my own fair share of bad WordPress hosts, and I’m done with them. I’ve chosen to ignore the offers and stop thinking about the larger amounts of money I could make by sending people to other (WordPress) hosting companies. I’d rather make less money and receive e-mails like the ones above.

My own VPS.net set up is as I put it down above, and yours could be that way too. If you only have to host a small WordPress blog, I’d still recommend you go with WestHost, and if you click on either of those links, yes, I still make money, and you still support me in blogging about WordPress hosting and WordPress optimization. But at least you know that now, and I feel an awful lot better for it. So, happy holidays, and good luck with choosing a WordPress hosting solution that works for you!

Update: by popular demand, VPS.net now offers a service to set up the exact same setup I use on VPS.net. If you use at least 6 nodes, they’ll set it up for you and move you over for free. If you want to use that offer, email Nick Nelson!

VPS.net – cloud hosting

VPS.net – Vertical Scalability

VPS.net, a new service offered by the UK2 Group. I, too, researched VPS.net and found them to be a good choice. You can buy “nodes” which allow you to ramp up your server space when need be. So, say you have some hugely viral content, and POW! it gets on the front page of Digg or some other viral site and your traffic is huge, you can scale it up momentarily, so your site doesn’t succumb to the “digg effect” and crash your server, like we did on Dreamhost.

So, we decided on 3 nodes, at first. The total cost, around $54 a month. Not too bad, we can handle that. So, Dan and I try to figure out how to configure an empty server. Because that is what VPS.net gives you, a blank slate to work with. Since neither Dan nor I am a server admin, we struggled to figure out how to set it up properly. In fact, there is VERY LITTLE documentation on how to configure the server through them. So, I think it may be a ploy to get us to buy the Managed server account, which we inevitably did. And so, we paid them another $45 for setup, and $90 a month. Another $135 paid to VPS.net this month. $54 + $135= $189, so far… in the first month.
We initially tried, in vain, to set up the server on our own. Well, in the process, we racked up a 3 additional $9 fees for a server add-on called Softaculous. What Softaculous allows us to do is to install WordPress and over 100 other website software components to any website on our server. Well, we installed it twice on accident on a server that we configured wrong and had to start over. We were charged $18 for those. We installed the configuration once again and collectively, Dan and I said, “Screw this” and we went to managed services, so they would set up the server and get my sites ported over well.

They have done a TREMENDOUS job on porting the sites over, and getting things working on the site that we need. MobileLocalSocial.com is now faster than ever. They had to delete the server we installed, and reinstalled it correctly, which we probably would have done, had there been any real documentation for us to read. So, 2 more $9 fees were added.

So, roughly $200 has been charged in the first month… but one of the $9 fees hadn’t been paid for yet… and so they SUSPEND the Server this morning. Over $9.

VPS.net good or bad choice?

Looking into good reliable vps hosting company.. The best way to explain this is that you can have paid hosting that is managed such as BlueHost.com. Then you can have dedicated servers where you have your own server, you share it with no one and you pay quite a bit for it too. The happy medium for these two types of hosting is VPS web hosting.

With VPS web hosting you are in control. The server is partitioned off so that you have your own section. You get to choose what operating system you use and you probably want to have some knowledge of Linux or whatever system the VPS web host uses.

So how do you know if you are ready for VPS? If your shared host does not offer you all of the features you need but dedicated hosting is too much money and too many features then you will most like benefit from virtual private server hosting. More often than not personal websites would not need this hosting but for small business owners it is ideal. When you own your own business it is easy to have several websites and if this is the case then you will want VPS because shared hosting will most likely not let you host multiple domains. Shared hosting usually has too many limitations for small and large business owners.

VPS hosting usually starts in the $20 per month range. The prices vary with the features but you easily get what you pay for. You go along to the VPS.net website, move the slider to the number of nodes you want, enter some details including payment details (credit card direct with them or using PayPal) and within a few minutes you have a working VPS ready to go. Perfect. Quick. Easy.

You do need to know how to run a Linux box from the command line to use VPS.net so it's more suited to someone with some experience at running servers. The basic operating system images are fairly bare bones so you'll need to install the web server, database server or whatever else you want to run on the box.

A previous VPS provider I used in New Zealand tended to reboot the VPSs once a week for system maintenance and there would be times when my virtual server could be down for as much as an hour overnight which isn't ideal. With VPS.net it's been up the whole time and there's been no downtime at all.

As well as being able to scale up (or down) your VPS at any time, there's also a virtual console which runs in a web browser, although I've found it only really works in Internet Explorer. Although you'll be able to connect using SSH this console can be useful to access the virtual machine if you've done something stupid like firewall yourself out of the box.

To date I'm a very happy customer of VPS.net and haven't had to contact their support department at all for any reason.

Try Vps

Found Electric Tool Box

VPS.net's Service

The way their service works is you choose the number of nodes you want and are billed accordingly. You can choose to add (or remove) additional nodes at any time making it easy to scale up your virtual hardware at any time.

Each node has 0.4Ghz of dedicated CPU, 256MB of RAM, 10GB of storage and 250GB of bandwidth. If you buy one node it's $20 per month; two nodes are $38 per month; three nodes are $54 and so on; i.e. it gets cheaper per node as you buy more.

After buying some nodes you then create a new VPS and can choose whether to have it hosted in the USA or Europe.

They've also just added a way to add additional disk space only at $10 per 25GB per month.
Brief Review

As at the time of this post I've been a VPS.net customer for 36 days. This post is a quick review of how I've found the service so far, a little bit of information about how it works, and a 25% discount coupon for your first month. (Note that this coupon code still works as at April 12th 2010).

Overview

This blog doesn't use a lot of resources, generating only 6k to 8k pageviews per day so having a VPS for it is probably a little bit of overkill, but I don't really like shared hosting and prefer to have more control over the box my websites are on. I'll also be adding a number of additional websites to this VPS over the coming months.

Originally it was hosted on my dedicated server in Auckland but it generates around 20GB of international traffic per month and this was costing too much hosting it from Auckland. Moving it to VPS.net means I'm now paying less overall with a server here and a VPS there than just with a server here.

Try Vps

Found Electric Tool Box

CloudLinuxOS Added as a Standard Operating System

A flexible alternative to traditional hosting, VPS.NET has implemented many technologies to add power to its offering including R1Soft Continuous Data Protection, the full suite of Turnkey Linux software appliances, and ISPsystem's flagship control panel ISPmanager PRO.

CloudLinux OS is the latest addition in this long line of improvements. The core technology behind CloudLinux OS, LVE, is a kernel-level technology that limits the amount of resources available to a group of processes, giving administrators the power to control the CPU and I/O demands of individual tenants, so that a single site cannot slow or take down a whole server. While similar in approach to container virtualization, LVE is lightweight and transparent. The LVE level fair-share CPU scheduler makes sure that each account gets enough CPU resources to run efficiently. This innovative CloudLinux OS technology offers service providers increased control as never realized before with traditional OS.

"VPS.NET customers want full control and flexibility from their cloud solutions," UK2 Group chief executive officer Ditlev Bredahl said in a statement. "CloudLinux provides our clients another way to have full control over their hosted environments, adding new levels of server stability and performance which is so critical to our growing client base."

Try Vps

Found thewhir

Standard Operating System for VPS.NET's Entire Line of Cloud Offerings

WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Software developer CloudLinux Inc. announced that virtual private server hosting provider VPS.NET will begin to offer CloudLinux as one of the standard Linux operating systems on all of its elastic and instantly scalable cloud hosting offerings.

Making its debut at Parallels Summit 2010 (www.parallels.com/summit), CloudLinux is the first Linux–based, commercially supported operating system optimized for shared hosting providers and data centers. According to its Wednesday announcement, VPS.NET chose to provide CloudLinux across its cloud computing architecture because of its added flexibility and control, and its Lightweight Virtual Environment technology lets VPS.NET provide more effective resource management by reducing the amount of resources any website can use, so that no single account can slow down a whole server.

The UK2 Group launched VPS.NET last year in an effort to simplify the process of VPS cloud hosting. The UK2 Group is known for its large family of hosting brands including UK2.net, midPhase, WestHost, US2.net, WingSix, and Dotable. VPS.NET features a system where users are allocated blocks of infrastructure resources or "nodes," each representing 376MB of RAM, 10GB storage, 250GB transfer, and 600Mhz CPU share, which can be pooled together in various ways to create custom virtual machines.

Try Vps

Found thewhir

VPS.NET - R1Soft CDP

CDP can replicate other VPS.NET virtual machines and physical servers to recovery points stored on disk. http://vps.net has signed an agreement to offer R1Soft Continuous Data Protection across its virtual private server cloud.

VPS.NET now offers customers a more advanced level of data protection with user-ready CDP backups and individual file-restoration capabilities.

Earlier this year UK2 launched VPS.NET, which offers a redundant cloud system designed to make it easier for companies to offer virtual private server cloud hosting.

VPS.NET offers an "instantly deployable" image that lets users to activate the Continuous Data Protection Server in 60 seconds, giving customers complete administrative control of scheduling and managing their backups, says the company.

The CDP software protects VPS.NET customers' environments by performing asynchronous replication of the target servers and archiving only the deltas or changed blocks to disk.

Each replication makes a full backup within minutes, even on larger data sets.

This gives VPS.NET customers the ability to perform more granular restores of individual files or folders as opposed to restoring the entire VPS.

Try My experience with them has been outstanding.

With my old server, I was experiencing downtime whenever something went wrong with the server, or if there was a surge in traffic. I needed redundancy, eliminating any single failure point, and good backups (that I could afford on a tight budget). I needed more cpu and memory for busy times, but didn't want the added costs long term.

So I happen across vps.net and tried them out. I'll never go back to a single dedicated server again.

With vps.net, you get a Virtual Private Server on their cloud. If something fails, it just rolls your server over to a different part of the cloud. If you need more cpu/memory, you can expand the capacity of your server for a limited time (no actual hardware has to be switched out).

And as for backups... I get a full backup of my server, daily, weekly, and monthly. Cost is just $5/month.

Try Vps

Found Find my host

What I would like to see in the future on vps.net

Failover Solutions

However resilient the cloud is even with the new version of the SANs it would be really good to have an effective instant failover solution. Such as using Floating IPs where in the case of using two boxes a master and a slave. The master uses the IP address if it fails the slave assumes the IP address till the problem can be resolved. One of the companies I am associated with does this and its a really effective solution.
Load Balancing – Geographic and Hardware

I have been writing this post over the course of the week and I saw a tweet about this feature, they are actively looking for beta testers for load balancing solutions. I have applied and if I get in I will do some posts about the new service.
You can find updates on this services here.
Ability to Download Imaged Backups

At the moment you can make up to four full back ups of your VPS daily, weekly, month and a custom. It has been discussed before on the VPS.net forum but it would be very useful to be able to download these backups to keep them for archiving purposes or just as another safety measure.
My Future with VPS.net

Currently I am planning on expanding to add some additional servers. Mainly adding ones for running databases separately. Also I want to add in some servers for failover which will be possible when the rest of the new DNS changes come live.

At one of the companies I am associated with we are planning to start the migration of two racks of servers currently based in London to a visualized solution with VPS.net.
Overall

Overall as you may have guessed by now my opinion of VPS.net is very good in general. They provide an extremely good and growing service with flexible pricing thrown in to the mix.

I give them a solid 9.9 out of 10 for a rating. I wanted to say 10 out 10 can’t be any better but the recent auto banning of ~250 clients just pushed it down a bit.
What I would say really is if you are looking for an effective VPS solution no matter what you scale VPS.net can cater for you and I highly recommend them. If you have any specific questions please feel free to leave a comment, email me or just check out VPS.net forum. If you do decide to go with them please use my affiliate link.

Try Vps

Found Pablumfication

What’s coming to VPS.net in the next few months

Console

Currently quite a good feature of VPS.net is having the ability to access your servers via a console interface in case your server can’t be accessed by SSH or you have other issues. It works fairly well and has helped me recover from a few issues such as an over zealous sshd.conf which stopped and user being able to login over SSH. Although in its current state there has been some issues where you can’t execute key combination’s such as CTRL + C.

A new version of the console is going to be a KVM solution and apparently is a lot better. This would be really good as although the current version is substantially better than the ones I have used with other hosting companies it is limited in a few ways, hopefully the new version will address these issues.
DNS 2.0

A new version of the DNS system is coming soon which will add new functionality including the ability to configure TTLs and new failover functionality. Some of the improvements came alive on Friday the 18th but other changes are still to follow. The most notable new change that came alive on Friday was features the ability to set SOA/NS which allows you to white label the VPS.net nameservers.

Redundant SANs

This is my favourite one of the new things coming to VPS.net in the next few months. 100% redundant SANs, in the past most down time has been due to SAN issues such as a bad RAID card. But no more will this be the issue any problems you simply get migrated to another SAN which is just awesome.

This is also now in place to an extent but not for everyone unfortunately. If you want to take advantage of the new redundant SANs you need to have your VPS migrated to SANs that support the new failover implementation.
A bit annoying for old customers but perfectly fine for new customers as I believe they will be on new SANs anyways.
Windows

Windows is coming to the cloud. Not something that excites me personally but should be good as might work out as an effective solution for people who want to host gaming servers ( After all no one truly wants to run Windows for anything else.

Try Vps

Found Pablumfication

The Good & the Bad for vps.net

Let me start off by going thought the good and bad experiences that stick out in my mind from my year with VPS.net.
The Bad

Best to get the bad out of the way first these are the three experiences that really stick out in my mind over the year.
Migration Issues

During the migration of what was then UK Cloud A to C, one of my servers was moved like everyone else who had a VPS on cloud A. Unfortunately in my case there was a problem and I lost two hours worth of data which included active orders for a client.

This was extremely frustrating as only one or two other people experienced this issue. It seems that all the VPS’s where backed up and then moved. However while this was in progress the new data was accumulating on the old cloud, when the backup went live on the new cloud it was two hours old hens the loss of data.

All I got with this was a response saying that shouldn’t of happened and nothing more. However this is most likely because I did not follow it up due to the fact I was flying off to America for two weeks.
SAN Failure

At the beginning of May the Cloud C SAN had some issues which took almost 4 hours to get resolved. This is the longest downtime I have had with VPS.net over the entire year. As a result of the downtime all people who where affected got a months worth of SLA credits, which I consider to be pretty fair compensation.
Auto Suspend of 250 – 300 Clients

Last week I got an email from VPS.net `Your account is suspended` naturally my first thought is damn I must not have paid a bill. Open the email and the first line that catches my eye is `Your VPS.NET Account has been suspended for the non-payment of invoice 0 on Wednesday 31 December, 1969.`

Thinking this has just been an automated email error I attempt to access my servers all 3 are down. I instantly get some support tickets going and check the forums. My ticket gets answered in about 10 minutes that it is an issue the auto suspended script has been disabled and peoples servers are coming back up.

This really was a case of replacing someones job with a small shell script gone to far. There is no more auto suspended being done with VPS.net it is now a manual job so this will not happen again. Just a pity it happened in the first place.
The Good
Constant Improvements

A great thing about VPS.net is that over the year I have been with them despite a few bumps in the road they have only continued to improve their services and there seems to be no sign of them slowing down as mentioned previously on an almost weekly basis. I have used many different hosting companies in the past and none of them have come any where near to improving their services as regularly as VPS.net does.

If you read my previous posts about VPS.net you will see the lists of features I talk about or check out their own which on a weekly basis seems to mention some new feature or improvement.
Flexible

The flexibility of VPS.net is another one of the things I really appreciate. In the past with other providers its been difficult to get a balance of performance and effective pricing. With VPS.net its really easy as you can just add more resources as you need taking only the amount of time it does to reboot the system.
Very Good Customer Service

Another really good aspect of VPS.net is the customer service. Every support ticket I have ever opened has had a response within 15 minutes and the staff have always been very helpful.

Not only is the staff good at responding to support tickets they are also very active on the forum which is helpful as well. The forums are also very good because they are really active with users who have a wide range of knowledge.

Try Vps

Found Pablumfication

VPS.net 1 Year Review

This month my VPS.net account reached the grand age of 1 year old. For this special occasion I thought I would do another review of VPS.net and recount some of my experiences from the last 12 months.

In this review I will go over the good and bad aspects of VPS.net that I have experienced. Also I will cover what is coming in the future and what I would like to see in the future as well. Finally I will give a bit of a summary of my thoughts after a year.

VPS.net

For those that don’t know VPS.net started up in December 2008 and are part of UK2 group. They provide cloud based hosting solutions that aim to provide flexibility, scalability, failover and high availability. You can find a good explanation of the services they offer here.
If you haven’t already read my review of why I choose VPS.net in the first place I suggest you check it out here.

My VPS.net Servers
I initially started off with simply a single server using a single node. Here’s the scoop:

We’re working on several new and updated base images for our Servers. Some changes are in the images themselves. Others have to do with the Linux kernels. While in the past we’ve done our best to test everything (and we’ll continue to do so), we figure that the images can be even better with the help of our customers.

So, we’ll give you a free 360 VPS for a month (and 40GB of bandwidth) to help us test a new image and/or kernel. After the month is up, it’s your choice whether to keep the VPS (and start paying for it) or delete it.

This is also a great opportunity to provide feedback and help us improve the images.

It probably goes without saying, but you do have to stay with the test image and/or kernel for the whole month (although we may give you the chance to try a different image or kernel along the way); you may not revert to a standard production image or kernel.

Please be aware that new kernels in particular may be prone to unusual behavior. While you are more than welcome to run your own stuff on your test server (in fact, we encourage it), please stick with apps where you can afford downtime, in case that happens.

You do need to already have a Zerigo login to apply. You do not need to have an existing Server. There are a limited number of slots available at any given time, depending on what we have to test at the moment.

Sound interesting? The most popular reason for a Free VPS hosting trial is to enable you to test-out a particular VPS web host and see whether their virtual private servers are good for your needs. They key then to finding a free trial VPS package is to locate the best VPS free trial for your needs. This sounds easy enough but the key to actually succeeding in getting a VPS hosting free trial is to take advantage of 30-day refund policies. We found two VPS web hosts that offer 30-day refunds on their VPS server plans. If you cancel within the first 30 days of "buying" their VPS servers they will refund your fees paid. Thus, you are in essence getting a VPS free trial. The first Free VPS hosting trial recommendation is StartLogic - which offers Linux VPS accounts starting at $29.95/month. The second VPS web hosting free trial suggestion is that of iPower. iPower offers rock-solid cheap Windows 2003 virtual private servers starting at $49/month.

Keep in mind that if you buy one providers VPS free trial and then cancel, you can always move along to another cheap VPS free trial product. In essence, if you really are seeking a free trial VPS account, more than one web host will supply this to you each 30-day period. However, the headaches of transfering your VPS site will eventually add up and you will simply want to stay with one of the cheap VPS plans you've tried out for free. We wish you good luck on using this low cost strategy to try out VPS hosting for free. This article is an exclusive trial VPS resource written for our VPS web hosting directory in 2009.

New Press Release - Progress on VPS.NET Beta Trial

VPS.NET – Second Phase of Beta Trial

Following the successful launch of the VPS.NET Beta Trial earlier this month, UK2 Group are pleased to announce that “Beta2” which is the second phase of the Beta Trial has now been initiated. This second phase means 50 additional Beta Testers have been given access to the superb VPS.NET Cloud, taking the total number of Beta Testers to over 150.

So far the VPS.NET Beta Trial has been hugely successful, with testers providing overwhelming levels of positive feedback. With such constructive feedback and ongoing bug tracking, several performance enhancing patches have been deployed, and an array of new tools and features requested by the Beta Testers is being worked on. One of the most valued and commented upon features at the moment is the “Nodes Slider” tool. I had a look at the VPS.net website and was drawn in by the website design and the fancy node slider, which I must say is very nice. I'm looking forward to the new site design and control panel too that is expected very soon. (I’ve just seen a sneak peak of the design from ditlev on the vps.net forums and it’s looking nice so far.

The uptime for VPS.net for me wasn't the best to start off with, but that was most likely my fault as my Linux administration skills were not the best. But VPS.net did have some issues with DDOS attacks and problems with an issue which caused all servers to reboot which made the queue very long and took hours to restore all servers but the problems seem to have gone now, I believe a staff member posted somewhere on the forums that the DDOS was mainly due to the IRC ports not being blocked. At first I was unimpressed at the 'Self healing' features, I didn't host any big websites at the time but it's not exactly the cheapest hosting for a 17 year old college student, we did get credited a full months hosting due to the problems that month, which I must say is very nice of VPS.net and they went out of there way.

I now host all of my websites at VPS.net and can now say I’m very happy with the vps.net platform; my server currently has 26 days and 5 hours of uptime as of writing this, my personal record with vps.net so far. I no longer use any webhost other than vps.net and wouldn’t want to use any other provider anymore.

One of the features with vps.net that I love is the optimized images that are available in a few clicks, I had a Debian server with Nginx/MySQL/PHP5 running in minutes, the only problem I had with that was vhosts weren’t working, so I had support fix that for me using an on demand ticket. My websites have always been fast on a 2 node sever, I host about 11 low traffic Wordpress websites including this one and about 8 MySql powered websites and I still have plenty of resources for more

The only thing’s I can think of what would make VPS.net better is more SAN redundancy which is currently the problem with VPS.net for most as it causes many peoples servers to run slowly, but vps.net have said V3 sans are already in testing. Now that’s listening to customers Smile!

I hope this review helps you with your decision to use VPS.net. I have used Media Temple, Linode and Slicehost and can say vps.net is my favourite by far.

Keep checking back and I will edit this post with some more informatio, also feel free to ask any questions and I will answer this as soon as I can.

Thank you for reading!

P.S This is my updated review 4 months later.

Found: Mybb

VPS.NET demo video

VPS.net review by Host Stadium

VPS.net is one of the first “large” cloud hosting competitors in the small yet ever growing cloud hosting market. I haven’t read anything bad about them but I’ve been reluctant to find anything good. So I went and did some digging! I was reading a review about VPS.net (and keep in mind cloud computing is fairly new in the industry) and the client stated how he loved VPS.net he loved the scalability with his Virtual Private Servers, and they went on a “honeymoon” (whatever that meant)

He then went on to say:

After the two week honeymoon, things started going downhill, and have been bad ever since. We suggest you consider what kind of plan you need carefully, if your just starting out remember you will not need a large cloud server. The best thing about a cloud server is that you are able to upgrade at any point so if you just have a couple of small sites start off on a small package and upgrade when needed. We suggest you use a non-free email address (an ISP email address or a domain email address) as this will ensure you do not need extra verification on your order (to prevent fraud) and will speed up your regisitration.

Once your account is created it is easy to create a new cloud server, simply fill in the details (server name, hostname, number of nodes etc), you will then need to choose a ‘Template’. The templates are prebuild servers made by VPS.Net, these save you the time of installing apache etc yourself. You start by choosing the country you want it hosted in, you then choose the operating system (eg centos, ubuntu) you would like, then you can pick a number of variations, for example, with apache or with apache and Cpanel (if paid for) or just the operating system etc. If you feel that you can install everything by yourself you can, if not choose a template.

Once created it is just like a normal server. If you have chosen to have WHM/Cpanel you will need to follow the setup wizard at yourIP:2086 (login with username ‘root’ and the password will be specified once you create the cloud server), the setup is simple enough.

The speed of the server seems very good, ping tests using HostTracker show that our cloud server from VPS.Net actually loads slighly quicker than a normal VPS hosted with another company. In general speed has been very good and we haven’t noticed any slow periods and things like Cpanel etc load quickly.

General support is free of charge, we do not have response times as we have never contacted Support as we haven’t developed any problems as of yet, although sales team responded quickly to emails and Live Chat with sales is also answered within about 10 seconds. What is included in the General Support? Good question, here is what we think. VPS.Net also has paid support under ‘Server Administration’, we presume this is for queries like ‘can you setup Cpanel for me?’, this will either cost a one off $10/£7 for 24hours, or you can choose a monthly charge of $99/£69.
Our advice is that the server is generally easy to setup due to the templates and setup wizards, if you do enough research (Google) then you could probably handle most server issues/administration that you would need to so don’t bother paying the extra. If you don’t have a clue about any server administration then just pay the $10 for 1 day, get them to set it up for you, then only use them when you need to, if you get it setup the way you want first time round you shouldn’t need to change anything any time soon.

Overall we can strongly recommend VPS.Net, we have found them to be very good and we wouldn’t be running this site on them if we didn’t believe they were good enough.

Found Vps.net cloud server

Pricing / Packages for vps.net

A single node at VPS.NET starts at £15 GBP per month for your first node with additional nodes getting cheaper.

There is a maximum of 18 nodes per account costing £162 per month (£9 per node). There’s a discount for bulk services, so buying more you save more. For example, buying at least two nodes cuts the cost down to /each or a month, and buying 6 nodes, which they claim is the most popular option brings the cost down to /month or per node. Each node of server space contains: 256MB of RAM, 10GB storage, 250GB transfer and a certain CPU share. Each of these nodes can be subsequently added together to create a virtual machine, where you select the operating system you want to install. Operating system options include: Ubuntu, CentOS, Gentoo, Debian and Turnkey Linux. Back in the days of the Beta program. Along the way their have been a few up’s and downs but that’s to be expected with such a new infrastructure. Cloud Hosting is in very early days at the moment, but vps.net seem to have perfected it in my opinion. If there is ever any issues they are resolved extremely quickly.

VPS.NET have also just upgraded their Node’s so you now get more Processor power and More Ram than you previously did. This was done to celebrate 1 year of VPS.NET and was a welcomed feature to all customers.

I have found that on the occasions when I have to contact support to resolve issues, that they are competent and knowledgeable in what they are doing. However the one thing that really stands out for me is the level of participation from the management team. You can often find yourself chatting to Nick, Ditlev and Carlos whether it’s for support or just suggesting new features, they are all ears and ready to listen to customers. Never have I seen this level of involvement from management of a Hosting company.

All that leaves me to say really is, if you are confident with Linux, or are willing to learn to run your own server then you can not go wrong trying out vps.net – and if you don’t wish to make a big investment upfront, then simply buy a daily node or two to try out the service. the nodes start at just $1 per day.

I hope you are as happy hosting with vps.net as I am.

Review found: Hosting Wordpress

Envyserv - Justin's website

Moving hosting to vps.net - opinions

Good move. The guys at VPS.NET are super helpful and their service is great. I’ve been with them a couple of months and I’m very glad I made the switch.

VPS.NET is really great hosting but requires good knowledge of Linux. I am still tweaking the server settings and I caused some downtime last two days experimenting with apache settings.

Their forums are really good and there’s a couple of guys that almost always answer with help and advice really quickly. I think they try and be the first to respond. But it that fails, there’s always support, and they are excellent and have never (touch wood) let me down.

The opinions were made to this move:
Yesterday I have moved the website to much faster and powerful VPS server hosted by VPS.NET. This will improve both initial response and loading time and general availability of the website.

My Third VPS with vps.net

My Third VPS

My latest VPS which I only setup two weeks ago to host this blog and a few other websites. I got it setup in like 10 minutes and that included installing Apache, PHP and MySQL manually.
It is great with VPS.net the fact that the more nodes you have the cheaper it gets.

My Experience with Support

In the 8 months of using VPS.net I have filled 10 support tickets most of them getting a response in under 10 minutes and I think the longer I waited was 30 minutes. Now that is the sort of support time that I appreciate.

Downtime

In the time I have been with VPS.net there has been maybe four bits of significant down time (significant being more than 10 minutes). If I remember right 2 of these times where due to DOS attacks and nothing could be done to prevent them but it got mitigated and steps have been taken to help prevent them in the future.
The other two times have been SAN issues as VPS.net improve their architecture and when they get SAN V3 in place these issues should become less frequent.

To make sure to cover all my experiences there was a few days where I did experience really bad Disc IO but support looked into it and it is greatly improved now. Once SAN V3 is in place users will be limited to there Disc IO which should mean it will get better for everyone.

It is important to mention that VPS.net are doing a lot of new and revolutionary stuff and there are bound to be problems. But I believe that with every day they get better and their services improve.

The Community

VPS.net has an excellent community there is lots of activity on the forum and people are always happy to help with issues. Its really good as there are quite a few members of the VPS.net team who are really active on there and they can usually answer most questions if one of the other users does not get there first.

Always Improving

As I mentioned early I believe that one of the strongest points of VPS.net is how they are improving and growing on almost a daily basis. Here are just a few features that have been added since I started using them which I think are really good.

* Daily Nodes
Need a quick boost of your VPS’s performance. Daily nodes are really handy if you just need a boost for a short period.
* DNS Templates
Most of the time when you set up DNS records there usually the same deal. Luckily community voices where heard and you can now create templates for your DNS records make it really easy to set up the appropriate DNS records for stuff like Google Apps.
* New Images / Distro Support
24 Turn Key Images
20+ Optimized Images
* Templates
This is a really useful feature once you’ve got a server set up how you like it you can replicate the image and use it again for another VPS.
* Forged Relationships
VPS.net have forged relationships with lots of different service providers. By doing this they can bring new services such as the monitoring provided by Server Density at a reduced cost.
* Storage Nodes
Although the node based architecture works really well some times you just need storage for instance if your wanting to run a backup server, a media server or something else.

Overall

So time for a quick summary. The good and the bad

The Good

* Flexible
* Support
* Price

The Bad

* Slight Teething Issues

So here is my final word I believe that if your looking for a good VPS provider in the UK VPS.net is the way to go. Once they get other the teething issues the services will be almost perfect.
If you want to try them out use this discount code to get 25% off for the first month. That’s it for now if you have any questions relating to VPS.net or anything else I have mentioned here please leave a comment or email me and I’ll be happy to answer if I can.

VPS.NET Review Needed

I'm considering buying a VPS from vps.net. Has anybody experience with them? Are they reliable and do they have good support?

They're an unmanaged provider, so you'd have limited need to contact support.

I used them for a month to test out there service and was extremely disappointed. Their provisioning system was horrible and to add a node resulted in 45 minutes of downtime. I was interested in their "daily node" option whereas you could add nodes on a per day basis if you needed a temporary boost but this resulted in over 1 and a half hours of downtime between the 45 minute adding and 45 minutes removing so your "daily node" was actually only a "22.5 hour node".

Also, no matter how many nodes I added, I was constantly getting "memory limit" issues from my forums (MyBB) resulting in Internal Server Error 500s. I added 3 more nodes (1GB of RAM) and I continued to receive the memory issues even with less than 10% of the memory being utilized.

Lastly, I noticed a lot of file system errors whenever I added a new node which was probably why the downtime was so long. But according to their forums, that kind of downtime is normal.

__________________
-Joe

They are nice, but vastly overpriced for the kind of resources you are getting.
I've signed up with them twice, toyed around and left (last time it was because they upped the price on new node purchases)

Not to be too negative, their model just doesn't work for me, but I can imagine it will work for others

Sell Cloud Hosting to your clients - easily via VPS.NET

Get on the cloud without the upfront investment via www.vps.net!

We have finalized our API's for www.vps.net, they are really simple and easy to integrate.

The API's will enable you to do everything on vps.net, the API's incl. a slide-order module so you can copy our way of letting clients allocate resources just by sliding the mouse (check out www.vps.net to see it).

You can also integrate our full backend into your site using our API's. Your clients can:

* Reboot
* Restore
* Load a new OS
* Scale up and down
* Deploy cloud servers in both UK and US
* ...And do it all realtime

All via the API's.

The popularity of our cloud setup has taken us by surprise - we've been out of beta for about 6-8 weeks, and have more than 1000 nodes deployed. Wow, your customer service is AMAZING. If the billing department would be as amazing as the implementation department, they might have a company worth doing business with. In the grand scheme of things, VPS.net, $9 is not very much money. I couldn’t care less about the $9. It’s the principle of the matter. The fact that I could be spending over $1000 this year with you… and you want to suspend me over $9. Not very wise considering the vast amount of web developers, web designers and SEO professionals that we directly and indirectly influence.

So, I’m debating a new search for a new server company now. It shouldn’t have to be this way, but apparently, VPS.net can not see the forest because there are too many trees in the way. There short sightedness is why I am giving VPS a 3 out of 10, so far. If they can figure out their customer service issue, then I would bump it to a 9 of 10.

VPS.net has been amazingly fast and secure, so far. And the support team has been great. I totally recommend this aspect of VPS.net’s business. And it’s WAY better than Dreamhost, but that isn’t saying a whole lot.

I wasn’t quite expecting the CEO to reach out, but this is a good sign. They are keeping track of their online reputation. This allows them to put out shitstorms, more effectively, more swiftly. Immediately shit-storm removal.

To which I responded: “Nice of you to follow up @ditlev I was excited for VPS.net but I just can’t fathom getting suspended for $9 after spending $200 this month.”

We are now discussing the problem: He tweets back:

That’s great. @ditlev Once resolved, I’ll add an addendum to my post. Also, Terry Myers sent me a great email back. He seems awesome. THX

So, it appears that they are in the process of making their billing system much better. They have helped us get it squared away. I truly appreciate them connecting to me, and what was interesting was that it was through non-traditional channels, through twitter. How cool. This is one company that gets the power of social media. They are managing their reputation and it’s helping them beat their competition.

Overall, now I give them that 9/10.

Server Speed: 10/10
Ease of Unmanaged Setup: 2/10 [get some n00b documentation/ video tutorials]
Managed Server Setup: 10/10
Billing: 4/10 [ and I think they are working on it ]
Customer Service: 9/10
Social Media Management: 10/10

VPS.net 10 Month Review Update

So its been about two months since I last did my last review of VPS.net and since a few things have changed I thought I would expand on my original review. If you haven’t read it already I would suggest reading it here.
What’s New with VPS.net:

Lets start of with whats new features VPS.net have added since my last review.
rsync:

A couple of weeks ago VPS.net finally got round to providing rsync support. Like the snapshot backups that they already provide at a cost of £4 a month it really is a good price which is the same no matter how big your overall storage is. This is pretty useful and makes the backups extremely cost effective.

However there are a few disadvantages to this firstly your backup space is the same size as your VPS meaning that you are limited to the amount of space you have for backup making it difficult to do stuff like rolling backups.

The second major disadvantage to the rsync backup that vps.net provides is that it can only be accessed by VPS’s within the VPS.net network that them themselves have backup enabled. Meaning if you only have a single server and then have an issue where your box is unusable you would need to setup another server in order to access your backups. There is a perfectly good reason for them doing this mainly that it stops people using the rsync space as a really cheap solution for online storage and for security reasons. Its kind of unavoidable with providing backups like these which are locked to the hosting.

Overall I would sum-up rsync backups with VPS.net to be really worth it and suggest using them in conjunction with snapshot backups.
Delayed Storage Upgrade:

As you may or may not know with any cloud hosting that works like VPS.net if you upgrade your VPS you usually upgrade the CPU, RAM and HDD Space at once. However an issue arises in the fact that if you add say an additional 6 nodes to an existing VPS it can take a bit of time like 30minutes to resize the partition and bring the box backup. Since most people dont need to the HDD space as much VPS.net give you the option to delay the resizing of the partition till you want it to be done perhaps when you schedule down time. So if you want to upgrade your VPS its just a case of do the usual but instead of 30 minutes it takes maybe 1 or 2 for the box to restart.

Not the most amazing feature in the world but one worth mentioning when every day people get customers complaining about a few extra minutes of downtime.
FusionIO:

VPS.net recently introduced Fusion-IO nodes which are nodes of storage provided from a RAID SAN that uses a PCI Express solid state storage devices. By using SSD there is a significant boost of performance for clients who have heavy I/O usage.

Pretty cool they have got this going. I have not had chance to try it yet, but hopefully going to be trying it out soon and will do a full post on it when I do.
What has Happened Since My Last Review:
The Bad:

Lets start with the Bad as I can hammer on for ever telling you how awesome stuff is most of the time but what happens when it goes wrong. There have been two problems in the last 2 months that spring to mind.

* Issues with a RAID card on one of the SANs resulted in two of my servers ending up in a read only state for a few hours till I realised. Kind of frustrating as could not sudo on the box as sudo needed to write a file.
* London Zone C – SAN3 Failure
This was a true bad one where there was a complete failure of one of the SANs for about 5hrs. However Nick Nelson ( VPS.net Managing Director ) has issues a month of SLA credits for the people that where effected, which is very good compensation at least for people at my level, I could imagine you would be a bit more annoyed if you where pushing more traffic.
Nick sent an email the following day with an explanation of the issue and has explained on how VPS.net are going to soon be stopping this problem from ever occurring again with the new SAN solution that should in theory provide complete redundancy and hopefully result in a 100% uptime solution.

The Good:

* Well for a start all the new stuff mentioned again. I have never come across hosting company before that pushes development as much as VPS.net does. In the ten months I have been using them there has not been a single month where something hasn’t been improved.
* Despite the issues mentioned above the general stability has been improved dramatically and I really can’t wait till July when the new SAN solution should come online and give almost 100% uptime to an already great service.
The stability has really held up lately with me going away for two weeks to America and coming back to find there had been no server related issues.
* Great Attitude of staff. In my experience the staff are very good always on top of the problem which is great compared to some other companies I have dealt with who don’t care unless something is on fire. In particular I really appreciate Nick Nelson ( VPS.net Managing Director ) taking such an active role and always being very helpful.

Summary:

As you might guess my review of VPS.net is still overall very positive. By the time its gets to July and the new SAN redundancy functionality goes in place, I think at that point VPS.net will be the best solutions around for hosting by far.
If this review has convinced you to give VPS.net a go yourself please use this link which contains my affiliate code VPS.net and this discount code ‘TURNK30′ which will get you 30% off your first month.

If anyone has any questions specifically about VPS.net do please leave a comment or send me an email I would be happy to help you out.

For those who are still undecided stay tuned when I reach a year of being hosted by them I am going to do a complete blow by blow of every element of their services and you can decide yourself if they are right for you.

Storage Upgrades, HostBill and everything else that happened this week!

I’m not sure how, but apparently it’s that time again! Time flies when you’re having fun. Lets wrap up the week with a round up of everything that happened here in the VPS.NET this week.

Before we even talk about VPS.NET though, lets talk about the big tech news that happened this week. Gizmodo was able to get their hands on the next generation of the iPhone, after a developer left it at a bar! Nick and I were discussing this as it happened, and we both decided we definitely do not want to be in that developers shoes, especially knowing how Steve Jobs is. There are however some people claiming that Apple intentionally “lost” the iPhone at the bar in order to get the hype machine rolling. With the amount of press coverage this received, I do believe this puts the iPhone on the same level as Angelina Jolie, Madonna & Tiger Woods.

The big news here at VPS.NET is the ability to upgrade your nodes without having to upgrade your storage, which means that you won’t need to rebuild the disk, the most time consuming part of the process. 30 second upgrade. Instead this allows you to schedule any storage upgrades to take place at the most convenient time for you or until you need it to be done. Once the upgrade goes through, you’ll only need to reboot your VPS. One of the key things this does is it makes us much more competitive with dedicated server providers. We’re already able to offer a significant amount of CPU Power, RAM, Bandwidth and Disk Space, but now you’re able to start out small, and continue to build up as your company does, without having the down time of manual hardware swaps.

The other news which I hope you all have already taken advantage of, is the ability to get a free HostBill license. HostBill is a complete web hosting management system, which I went over in full detail here. If you haven’t taken advantage of it yet, I encourage you to do so at www.hostbillapp.com/vps.net/.

Besides bringing out some new software updates and services for you, the guys over in the London datacenter were able to get a new FusionIO cloud up for use. We highly recommend anyone with a MySQL driven site to offload their databases onto a FusionIO node, and experience ridiculously fast website loading times. FusionIO is based on high speed solid state drives, and makes read/write times blazing fast. FusionIO nodes are available in London and Atlanta now, and are $50 for every 2 Gigabytes of Storage Space.

The forums continue to pick up in traffic, which is great to see. Our goal is to build a strong community here, and I think we’re off to a great start. Some hot threads this week are:

Config: rewrite and .htaccess

HostBill – VPS.NET branding

Anyone use Akamai on Demand Streaming?

I also wanted to point everyone out to an awesome site we advertise on, WebResourcesDepot, which offers free tips and tricks for webmasters. They have a pretty cool post up right now about making your AJAX content crawlable by web spiders. Highly recommend everyone check it out, especially for those of you where your search engine position is important (and I think that might be all of us).

Anyhow, I’m off for the week. More than likely I’m going to be spending a lot of time doing this (yes that is me!).

Addon Services Available

One of the great things at VPS.NET (At least I think so) is the number of addon services that are available to you. Whether it be control panels, software, hardware, and so on, we’ve tried to bring you a number of different options so you’re able to configure a setup that works for your needs and caters to your business. And as we grow, we’re continuously adding new services to keep up with the demands of our clients. Because of this, there may be a lot of people out there who may be unaware of some new cool services we’ve added.

Control Panels

cPanel – cPanel is likely the most recognizable control panel available on the market today. cPanel provides a front end interface to manage your websites files, email address, mysql databases, and many other tasks. Along with the client side management, cPanel also comes with the WHM (Web Hosting Manager) interface, which provides an interface to for server administrators and resellers to perform many different tasks, such as setting up new websites, updating Apache, and other server-side software. Each cPanel license is $10 per month.

ISPManager - ISPManager is a low resource consuming control panel software with a multi-level user system. It provides a graphical interface for server administrators, resellers and individual clients. Like cPanel, you have the ability to administrate certain functions of the web server, and each individual website. ISPManager licenses are available free at VPS.NET.

Server Administration

Pro-active, Fully Managed Administration – We realize not everyone wants to worry about their server – they want to worry about their website. We offer a fully managed hosting solution where we’ll handle the migration of your website to VPS.NET, the initial VPS server setup, and then monthly security overhauls to make sure everything is running properly. With this, we also offer a 100% SLA. This solution is available for $99 a month with a $45 setup fee.

On Demand Server Administration - In addition to the fully managed solution, we have on demand administration that you’re able to use when you run into a problem. On demand administration is good for kernel upgrades, PHP/Perl Installation and Configuration, Control Panel Installation and Configuration, Backup/Migration Assistance, Software Installation or Web Server Assistance. On Demand tickets are $10 each and last for 24 hours.

Server Monitoring

Server Density – Server Density is an addon tool that allows you to easily monitor your server for abnormalities through your email and/or your iPhone. Inside of Server Density you’re able to track CPU Load, Memory Utilization, processes, disk usage, network traffic, and apache & nginx status. Server Density is available for $7.50 a month.

DotDefender - DotDefender is a software that monitors and logs your servers traffic, detecting any suspicious traffic activity. DotDefender is capable of running a website specific rule set, limiting the number of false intrusion detection attempts. DotDefender licenses are available for $15 a month.

Backups

Snapshot Backups – Snapshot backups are easy and effective. Using snapshot backups, VPS.NET will take a”snapshot” of your VPS node once a day, every day, and at the end of the month will retain one daily, one weekly, one monthly and then a day of your choice for backup. When restoring, individual files cannot be restored. We can only restore an entire backup. Snapshot backups are available for $5 a month.

Rsync Backups – With Rsync backups, we give you offsite backup space capable of backing up your entire VPS Node. You’re then able to use Rsync, Duplicity, or any other backup script available to automatically backup your VPS. With Rsync you’re able to restore individual files. Rsync backups are $5 a month.

R1Soft Backups – R1Soft backups are the “enterprise” version of our backup solutions, with continuos data protection through a graphical interface. Multiple copies of individual files are kept on hand and can be restored as necessary. R1Soft has a license charge of $15 per month.

Control Panel Addons

Softaculous – Softaculous is a script auto-installer that has a repository of over 130 commonly installed website scripts. It integrates directly in with both cPanel & ISPManager. Licensing is available at $9 a year.

Rvskin - The Rvskin set “beautifies” cPanel, offering you 2 additional skins in 7 different colors. Even more advantageous is the Rvskin set is available in 25 different languages. Rvskin is only available for users running cPanel and is $18 a year.

Misc.

Lightspeed Web Server – LiteSpeed Web Server is the leading high-performance, high-scalability web server. It is completely Apache interchangeable so LiteSpeed Web Server can quickly replace a major bottleneck in your existing web delivery platform. Litespeed is a drop in replacement for Apache on cPanel servers. Lightspeed licenses are only available for users running cPanel and can be purchased for $14 a month.

CodeBase – Codebase is a source code hosting and project management platform. While a CodeBase account usually runs you $79 a year, VPS.NET subscribers are able to get one free of charge.

FusionIO Node - FusionIO is solid state, high performance database hosting solution. With the solid state technology, your databases are able to be transferred and processed significantly faster, dramatically speeding up dynamic content driven websites. FusionIO nodes are available in both Atlanta and London and are $50 for every 2 Gigabytes of Storage Space.

HostBill – For company’s out there selling web hosting services off of our VPS Nodes, I highly recommend you look into HostBill. It’s a great client management system, with payment gateway support, and a complete support suite. Best of all, it’s available free of charge at VPS.NET.

VPS.NET - Beta Trial

Hi all,

I have just sent out a press release about the successful launch of the VPS.NET Beta Trial.

Have a read below, and don’t forget we will be increasing the size of the trial so if you want to regsiter your interest let us know!

There is a lot of demand so go to the sign up page on VPS.net right now!

LONDON, 5th February 2009

Launch of VPS.NET Beta Trial

VPS.NET, the eagerly awaited new addition to the UK2 Group, successfully launched its Beta Trial this week.

Discount Code

Get a 25% discount off your first month's hosting with VPS.net using the following discount coupon code (note that this coupon code still works as at April 12th 2010):

Vps.Net Coupon Code Discount

VPS.NET demo video

This is how to setup a new server on the VPS.NET Cloud!

Uk2group - vps.net

VPS.NET has simplified the process of virtual private server They are a provider of Cloud Virtual Private Servers. You can affordably purchase as much hosting firepower as you need, and have full control over the management of it. VPS.net isn’t like other providers though. Their unique “cloud” twist makes things a bit more interesting…

What makes VPS.net different from other services? Instead of simply partitioning a physical server into slices and selling them as virtual servers, VPS.net has what they call a “Virtual Private Server Cloud.” They break their infrastructure into “nodes,” which are blocks of resources (256MB of RAM, 10GB storage, 250GB transfer, and a certain CPU share) that you can pool together in various ways to create custom virtual machines.

Suppose you need a server with 512MB of RAM, 20GB of storage, and 500GB of monthly data transfer. Just order two nodes, create a new virtual machine, and assign the nodes to it. Press the switch to boot it up, and then you can choose one of the many OS images to install. (Ubuntu, CentOS, Gentoo, Debian and Turnkey Linux are are distros available at the present.)

What if you’re experiencing unusually high traffic? Just add another node and assign it to your virtual machine. It will reboot gain access to the new resources. (You can even purchase “temporary” nodes on a $1/day basis, which work great for handling short-term traffic spikes, or creating a temporary development test server.) I really like this concept. It’s very nice to be able to pay for the resources you need when you need them, instead of being stuck upgrading from a $50/month plan to a $100/month plan with a traditional VPS.

The service has seemed stable thus far, and customer support is truly awesome. I’ve rarely seen management so actively involved with their customer community. If I had a pre-sales question, all I had to do was send a quick message on Twitter. Ditlev Bredahl, CEO of the UK2 Group, which is the parent company of VPS.net, participates actively in the VPS.net community forum, along with the rest of the people at the hosting provider.

The servers are speedy, though your mileage will depend on your skills at configuring Linux servers.

I would definitely recommend VPS.net to anyone who has outgrown shared hosting. Between their flexible resource node model and their customer service, they’re definitely worth considering.

Vps.Net Coupon Code Discount

VPS.net offer flexible, reliable, energy-efficient virtual machines using Xen to allocate dedicated resources based on your requirements. A VPS.NET Cloud server is the ideal solution between shared hosting & dedicated servers.

We've been out of beta for 3-4 weeks now, we've deployed more than 1000 nodes, and we are now ready for the WHT crowd.

Our approach is very unique, you simply will not find a similar offering anywhere out there.

Vps.Net Coupon Code Discount<- 30% off the first month!
Priced as low as $20/server.

Random feature list:

Cloud Flexibility / Scalability
Dugg. Slashdotted. Druged. Nothing makes content more irrelevant than inaccessibility. Don’t let your 15 minutes turn into 15 seconds. It only takes a few of seconds on the front page of Digg to bring a normal server to its knees. Our server clouds are instantly scalable, giving you the ability to increase your capacity when you need it and scale back when you don’t.

Read more about how you can benefit from our scalable VPS platform

UK/USA
Flexibility is the name of the game. VPS.NET's Cloud Computing Architecture gives you the strategic and amorphous ability to dynamically control where your content is at any one time. Covering two major industrial time zones, our clouds deliver your content simultaneously from both the United Kingdom and United States. Notice a geographical shift in your customer base? Simply alter your node configuration to meet the growing demand and keep your content delivered in real time.

Failover / High Availability
A 99% uptime guarantee still leaves you 1% vulnerable. Your content shouldn’t have a point of failure. Our cloud architecture is designed from the ground up with redundancy at its core. A traditional server always has a single point of failure; a hard drive, a power supply, a power outage. VPS.NET’s cloud architecture uses a RAID 10 SAN system, powered by Cisco‐network hardware. Your content is disseminated across nodes over multiple servers in our cutting edge datacenters, ensuring you are protected against the inevitable.

Simple Web Interface / Easy Machine Management
Administer your cloud with VPS.NET’s clear and concise web management interface. Assigning new nodes, restoring backups, keeping track of your statistics, direct console control – all just one click away. Liberate yourself from normal business hours. It’s Friday, your product launches to a huge customer response, your server is overloaded and you need to expand. The technicians are gone until Monday, your customers are starting to turn sour, and you need to upgrade now. Our web management interface gives you the power to customize your cloud on the fly. Expanding the power and capacity of your content is as easy as a click and drag.

High Speed Deployment
Don’t let your webhost dictate your deployment schedule. From conception to execution, your cloud is ready to use in under five minutes. Stop twiddling your thumbs and start developing. VPS.NET has an array of Linux distributions and pre‐configured application stacks ready to go. Feel free to browse the template library below.
VPS.NET Live Image Browser

Automated Backups
Your content is always at your fingertips. Lose a file? Did a client send you bad data? Hit the wrong key and sent everything to the Great Trash Can In The Sky? One click restores your content so you can get back on track. VPS.NET’s Automated Backup System creates complete data redundancy in the form of Daily, Weekly, and Monthly backups. A simple “Restore This Backup” button resets your nodes to where you want them, negating any effects of intrusion, corrupting client data, or a mistakenly clicked Delete button.

Free Control panel (ISPmanager PRO)
ISPmanager is a server administration control panel, admired by it’s clean and simple to use interface, it’s the perfect companion for a VPS.NET account.
ISPManager Pro is powerful but lightweight, it only utilizes 10MB of ram and 40MB of HD space, the regular pricing for ISP Manager is €34.00 /month, a fantastic value for VPS.NET customers who get it for free. "Beta2," which has now been initiated, brings an additional 50 beta testers to the VPS.NET cloud, taking the total number of beta testers to more than 150.

The UK2 Group said the VPS.NET Beta Trial has been overwhelmingly successful, recording much positive feedback, as well as constructive contributions including bug tracking efforts, and new tool and feature requests. This feedback has helped the UK2 Group deploy several performance enhancing patches.

One of the features that received the most interest is the "Nodes Slider" tool, which lets users deploy new VPSs quickly and easily, according to the UK2 Group. Testers are extremely impressed by the ease and speed 's by utilizing this tool.

The UK2 Group said that more "Beta2" Testers will be invited to join the VPS.NET cloud over the coming weeks, as final developments and preparations are made for launch across the UK2 Group, schedule for late March.

"We are delighted with the success of the VPS.NET Beta Trial," UK2 Group chief executive officer Ditlev Bredahl said in a statement. "The project continues to be extremely challenging, yet equally rewarding, as we work with our Beta Testers to create this superior VPS Project. We would like to thank all of our Beta Testers for the assistance, observations and experiences they have given so far."

UK2 Moves Support Fuctions In-House

Web hosting provider UK2 Group announced on Thursday it plans to move all support functions in-house, despite the recession prompting many companies to turn to outsourcing.

As part of UK2 Group's strategy to leverage the best from its thirteen brands, the company is able to build an in-house support function which can now be rolled out across the UK2 Group.

Outsourcing support to less expensive countries has become a common practice in many industries, as the move can lead to cost reductions, greater flexibility and economies of scale.

Last month, budget web hosting provider Fasthosts announced it will soon replace its UK customer service team with offshore call centers in Romania and the Phillipines.

UK2 considered the risks involved with outsourcing, namely in the reduction of quality of service, loss of control of a key part of the business and decline in knowledge levels within the business.

After taking these factors into account, UK2 decided to move all UK2 Group support functions in-house, including a 40 employee out-sourced staff based in India..

Several other UK2 Group brands have already offered in-house support, the decision was made to move all UK2 Group support functions in-house.

"This is a big decision for us to make given the considerable economic uncertainty at the moment, but here at UK2 Group we are committed to putting our customers first," says Ditlev Bredahl, CEO of UK2 Group. "We have thirteen brands within the group, several have in-house support already and the others have various out-sourced support options so we have a lot of knowledge and experience. We believe that it is in the best interests of our customers to pool our support resources and provide a consolidated support function based in our Utah and Chicago offices in the US and London office in the UK."

The move to offering in-house support will also create more jobs within the UK2 Group, particularly in Utah.

The company has already established about 20 posts and expects this number to increase as more technical support and other support functions are moved.

UK2.net is the founding brand of the UK2 Group. The company has offered in-house support since the launch of its London based call center in spring 2007.

The company says that by consolidating support for all UK2 Group brands it is able to provide in-house online support for all customers because of the "convenient crossing of time zones and working hours."

UK2 Group provides domain name registration and web hosting services to global customers through its portfolio of hosting brands, which include UK2.net, midPhase, WestHost, 10TB.com, AN Hosting, Autica, Resell.biz, US2.net, WingSix, Supreme Support, Dotable, VI.net and the most recent addition, VPS.NET.

The new virtual private server cloud hosting system just entered the second phase of the beta trial, and is set to launch later this month.

Contact Information for Vps.net

Owner: Vps
Web Site Title Vps
Attention: This information may be inaccurate, in case you represent this company, create your self a free account to manage company info and much more!
Vps.net (vps.net)
address
4167 Winchester Rd.
Null,
United States
610 530 7454 999 999 9999
antadam[at]vps[dot]net
Statistics for www.vps.net
Site in business since 2-Apr-1997
Links to the site 217
Popularity Rank (1 best) 13230
Site language en
Website details www.vps.net
Website Name Servers (DNS) MX::vps.net.inbound10.mxlogic.net:208.65.144.2
MX::vps.net.inbound10.mxlogicmx.net:208.65.144.2
ns1.vps.net:83.170.64.2
ns2.vps.net:83.170.69.2
Web Server Type Apache/2.2.8 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.2.4-2ubuntu5.10 with Suhosin-Patch mod_ssl/2.2.8 OpenSSL/0.9.8g Phusion_Passenger/2.2.5|Phusion Passenger (mod_rails/mod_rack) 2.2.5
Web Site IP 96.6.62.119
Website Location:Country/State/City United states / Massachusetts / Cambridge

Vps.Net Coupon Code Discount

VPS.NET Deploys R1Soft CDP

Offers customers a more advanced level of data protection with user-ready CDP backups and individual file-restoration capabilities.

UK2 Group, a provider of domain name registration and web hosting services, today announced the availability of R1Soft Continuous Data Protection (CDP) across its extensive virtual private server cloud. The company states that VPS.NET now offers customers a more advanced level of data protection with user-ready CDP backups and individual file-restoration capabilities.

It explains that VPS.NET offers an "instantly deployable" image that can have a Continuous Data Protection (CDP) Server up and running giving customers complete administrative privileges over scheduling and managing their backups. The CDP software protects VPS.NET customers' environments by performing asynchronous replication of the target servers and archiving only the deltas or changed blocks to disk. Each replication creates a full backup that typically only takes minutes to create, even on larger data sets. This gives its customers the ability to perform more granular restores of individual files or folders as opposed to restoring the entire VPS, adds the company.

"Our team has been working closely with R1Soft for months on this project and we are pleased to say that we can now offer our customers scalable VPS hosting with a trusted high-performance data protection offering that can be deployed within minutes," said Ditlev Bredahl, CEO of UK2 Group.

"As one of the first large deployments of CDP on the cloud, the opportunity to work with VPS.NET's experienced virtualization team on this project has been very exciting for R1Soft. Adding CDP for Linux, Windows and MySQL, exemplifies VPS.NET's commitment to offering customers a wide range of self-managed services," said David Wartell, Vice President of R1Soft, a division of BBS Technologies, Inc.

About Vps.net

VPS Cloud Hosting made easy

VPS.net offer flexible, reliable, energy-efficient virtual machines using Xen to allocate dedicated resources based on your requirements.
